Pebbles and BamBam as yearling heifers

We’re about helping you make a mini cow connection

It all started when…

We were looking for an agricultural hobby and we found out that mini cows were a thing! Previously, we had been haying our fields, but it took up too much time, was a lot of hard work and my husband is allergic to the hay. Next, we fostered some alpacas, but we were looking for something more. That’s when we fell in love with mini cows.

Bud has always wanted to raise cattle since growing up and visiting his grandpa’s cows in rural New Jersey. Penny has enjoyed cattle, but has a soft spot and didn’t see us raising cattle for meat consumption. And neither of us was looking forward to full size cows breaking our nice, new horse fencing. That’s when we found minis, and the mini highlands in particular.

They are such cute teddy bears! They are very friendly and docile. Our bull, Captain Jack Sparrow, is especially tame. He loves to be scratched on his chin and will lead about quietly. We’ve even joked about taking him trick or treating or to the local park. Our cows are very friendly, too. They’ve been raised like pets, so they come when called and like to be pet/brushed/bathed. That’s also how we treat our calves. We handle them daily as they grow up so they will enjoy your attention when you get them home.

Now that we’ve been blessed by this opportunity to have and raise mini highlands, what better thing to do than share this with you… the mini cow enthusiast. If we can do it, you can too. It’s easy and we’re here to support you as you learn more. Be sure to read our blog about some of our first time experiences.  And feel free to contact us to find out more info. If we don’t know, I bet we can connect you to someone who does!

Maybe you’re ready to commit to mini cows, but need help finding the perfect ranch to house them. Then you’ve also come to the right place. That’s why I established a real estate business connecting families to their dream horse or rural property in Douglas County, Colorado. I am lucky enough to lead the life I love. And I want to help other families do the same. If you’d like to see available horse properties, click here. You can also view my real estate website for more information.

If you’re in the market to purchase:

  • Buy from a reputable breeder who has a buy back clause

  • Ensure you can see both the parents (to determine size and breed characteristics)

  • Make sure you have the right facilities, zoning and setup. These guys are tiny. They can’t defend against predators like coyotes, foxes and dogs. And even though they are small and we might think of them as pets, your neighbors may not appreciate the mooing if you’re in a subdivision.

  • Make sure you have a vet who at least sees full size cattle. Most equine or small animal vets don’t want to treat cows. These mini highlands tend to be very healthy and you probably won’t NEED a vet. However, we’ve found consulting our vet is the best resource to answer questions.

See the photo pages for more pictures! We are currently waitlisting and taking deposits for our 2025 calves out of Pebbles and BamBam. We are taking deposits so that there’s no confusion about who has first dibs on the calves! In this way, you can also decide if you want the calf de-horned. A $400 deposit will hold your spot in line. If for some reason, we are unable to provide you a strong, healthy calf, then we will return your deposit or you can roll it forward to the next breeding. Typical pricing for calves is $3,000 to $10,000 depending on their color, sex and presence of dwarf gene. Our goal is to make sure that you’re happy with your purchase and the calf has a great forever home.

Additionally, we are offering breeding to our mini highlands bull, Captain Jack Sparrow. Not only is Captain Jack very docile, but he’s chondro positive, which means you’re guaranteed a tiny, dwarf calf 50% of the time. You can bring your cow to us to board and we’ll make sure she comes back to you healthy and pregnant.
