Vaccinations!

I consider myself pretty proficient around veterinary matters. I am lucky enough to have been raised around the medical field and I’m used to the terms. And I’ve been unlucky enough to have had plenty of vet time with my horses, chickens, cats, dogs, even the mini pig. What I was not prepared for was the challenge of trying to vaccinate itty bitty cows without a chute.

All of our cows are halter broke. They can be led, tied, brushed, heck they even pick up their feet like horses. What they don’t do is stand for vaccinations! How can it be that a little pin prick sends them into such a tizzy? Bam Bam in particular has a raucous meltdown. Pebbles and Captain Jack Sparrow certainly don’t like it, but they will tolerate the procedure. It’s a pinch of skin and a pin prick, that’s it! Bam Bam on the other hand has a full scale, toddler meltdown. The ugly, grocery store, people watching kind of meltdown. She’s jumps and bellows. Trashes and throws herself on the ground.

Undoubtedly, in a future blog post, I’ll share how to make a chute. We’ll need to do something to keep everyone safe, including our drama queen, Bam Bam.
